The Development of Cultural Identity through knowledge of regional history in students of IE 0083, Lima, 2024

Abstract

In the present study, the central objective was to evaluate the level of development of cultural identity that can be achieved through the implementation of a pedagogical intervention based on knowledge of regional history. This intervention was designed for students in the third grade of secondary education belonging to a national educational institution. To this end, the relevance of knowledge of regional history was explored in depth, considering its potential impact on the consolidation of the cultural identity of the participants. Based on this premise, an applied and transversal research was developed, using an experimental method with a quasi-experimental design and a quantitative approach. The work was carried out with a total of 64 students. Both groups were subjected to two evaluations, a pretest at the beginning and a posttest at the end, in order to measure changes in the development of their cultural identity. During the process, the pedagogical intervention was applied to the experimental group, while the control group did not receive this specific treatment, which allowed us to observe differences directly attributable to knowledge of regional history. The findings obtained showed that the experimental group showed significantly greater development compared to the control group. In the case of the control group, the changes recorded were minimal, which highlights the limited effectiveness of conventional strategies applied in the absence of the intervention. In contrast, the experimental group experienced notable progress, which allowed us to conclude that knowledge of regional history has a positive and statistically significant impact. These results highlight the importance of integrating local historical content into educational programs, fostering in students a deeper sense of belonging and appreciation of their cultural heritage.
